Schwartz gained invaluable campaign experience as a member of the team that helped Thune topple Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle in 2004. That win marked the first time in 52 years that a sitting party leader was defeated. From 2003 to 2008, Schwartz did stints in the White House and Department of Energy under President Bush. Schwartz worked as a corporate attorney before embarking on a career in politics.
